I am experiencing a recurring crash issue in Don't Starve Together on Nintendo Switch when playing local 2-player split-screen.
The problem happens when loading an existing world in local co-op. In single-player, the world can usually be loaded successfully, but when trying to enter the same world in 2-player split-screen, the game often closes during the loading process before entering the world.
This issue becomes much more common in late-game / long-progress worlds.
Current symptoms:
- Player 1 can usually enter the world alone.
- The same world may fail to load and crash when starting in local 2-player split-screen.
- The software closes during loading before both players enter the world.
- This has happened repeatedly across different attempts.
What I have already tried:
1. Reinstalling the game
2. Restarting the console
3. Testing with internet connected / disconnected
4. Testing with wired internet / Wi-Fi / offline
5. Turning off auto-login based on old discussions
6. Testing on a different console, including Switch 2
None of the above fully solved the problem.
Current workaround:
The only partial workaround we found is:
- Launch the world with Player 1 alone first
- Let the world load successfully
- Exit and restart the game
- Then start the world again in 2-player mode
This sometimes improves the success rate, but it is not reliable.
Additional information:
- Platform: Nintendo Switch / also tested on Switch 2
- Mode: Local 2-player split-screen on the same console
- This issue does not appear to be caused by internet connection status
- The world is often accessible in single-player, but not reliably in 2-player split-screen
- The issue seems more likely to happen in older / late-game worlds
1. Launch Don't Starve Together on Nintendo Switch.
2. Use local split-screen with 2 players on the same console.
3. Select an existing world that has progressed significantly / is in late game.
4. Start loading the world in 2-player split-screen mode.
5. During loading, the game may close before entering the world.
Additional observations:
- The same world can often be loaded by Player 1 alone in single-player.
- The crash happens more often when trying to load the same world directly in 2-player split-screen.
- This issue has happened multiple times on the same save/world.
