Wormhole? Random dupes appearing on asteroid after trailblazer doesn't appear?

I had built a rocket platform on the asteroid with the resin tree. I landed a rocket with two dupes in it on the asteroid. I decided to "auto pilot" the rocket back to my main base. I put it in orbit, then used the trailblazer to return the pilot. I then changed the rocket course to the base.

I wanted the steel from the trailblazer, but it didn't appear. However, the dupe that was in it was back on the asteroid, so I thought maybe it was a glitch.

Soon after, at least 12 dupes from my main base appeared on this asteroid. I was working on taming a tungsten volcano and didn't notice where they came from, I just all of the sudden had alerts that dupes were overheated. Since I had accidentally overheated the asteroid, and they weren't in suits, I quit the game before they died. 

I've never seen something like this happen.
