Critter drop off point not working as described or intended

Hello,

I have a nursery and hired 2 Cuddle Pips (CPip) to help nursing the eggs. Ive placed a critter drop off point(CDOP) with the CPip checkbox selected and limted it at 2 with auto wrangle surplus. As critters born (in this case, Dreckos), my rancher comes and wrangle.. the CPips.

To clarify, what was supposed to happen is: As the CDOP is set to allow 2 critters and the specified critters are Cuddle Pips, the rancher should come to wrangle any other non specified critter, but not the CPips as theyre allowed to be in this point.image.thumb.png.0d0d5ae9779f009c40b930158c1820a3.png

Steps to Reproduce

Place a Creature drop off point

specify any number you wish + the critter and set auto wrangle

if theres any non specified critter in the room and the amount is higher than the limit, all surplus non listed critters should be wrangled.

what happens is that the specified critters are being wrangled

User Feedback

This is not a bug. The list of critters indicates what type will be wrangled when the count in the room is exceeded.

The logic goes like this: Are there more than X critters in the room, and is auto-wrangle checked?  If yes, then wrangle the critter typess that are checked in the list.

You have the drop-off set to 2 critters max, and it is set to auto-wrangle Cuddle Pips only.
In your screenshot there are more than 2 critters in the room.  The Cuddle Pips get wrangled, since they are checked on the drop-off. You do not have Dreckos checked on the list, so they will never get wrangled.

If you want the other critters to be wrangled, then you need to add a 2nd critter drop off, set the limit to 0, and set it to auto-wrangle all critters except for cuddle pips.

Ive tried it like you said, they wrangled the dreckos but keep wrangling the Pips and now its stuck in: wrangle pip (critter drop off, set the limit to 0, and set it to auto-wrangle all critters except for cuddle pips) and drop the Pips (second critter drop off with 2 as the limit as cuddle pips checked, didnt even set to auto wrangle)

That is because the room count is still over 2 so they are still wrangling pips.  Once they remove the other critters, they will stop wrangling the pips.

For example:
You have 1 drop-off set to 0 critters and all types EXCEPT for pips are checked.
You have a 2nd drop-off set to 2 critters and ONLY pips are checked.

When a new critter is hatched, there are now 3 critters in the room.  That means that both drop-offs are asking for critters to be wrangled.  This is still not a bug.

I think you are trying to solve the problem in the wrong way.  When a critter is sitting in the incubator, they are considered to be wrangled and available to be carried to another location.  You just need to have a drop-off ready to receive them, and your duplicants will remove all the dreckos from the room as soon as they are hatched.  You can just uncheck auto-wrangle from the drop-off you already have, and then nothing will get wrangled.

I would set your ranch drop-offs to priority 6, and another drop-off in the drowning room set to priority 5.  When a critter hatches, (even if it is a cuddle pip) the duplicants will take it to a ranch (or drop it in that same room if it is a cuddle pip and there are fewer than 2 critters in the room) or drop it off in the drowning room.  This will make sure that your nursery always has 2 cuddle pips in it and that the other critters are removed immediately.

The way to solve my problem was to set diff priorities, with the Drop off (2 pips) higher than the one with 0+auto wrangle (no pips checked)

Thanks!

That will work some of the time.  It means that they will wrangle the Dreckos first, but until the dreckos are removed from the room, your duplicants will still get a call to wrangle the pips as well.

My point from above is that there is no need to wrangle anything in the room at all.  You duplicants will automatically remove critters from the incubators as long as there is a place to put them.  Your problem is that you do not have a waiting drop off for the Dreckos at all times.  A drowning room will fix this for you.

I do have a drowning room. The problem wasnt fixed, as the Dups will still be stucked in wrangling the pips.

I will manually remove all dreckos in the room and try a different approach (no auto wrangle at all with only 1 critter drop off)

You say you have a drowning room, but if that is the case, then why are there 5 dreckos wandering around in your nursery?  Why were they not immediately taken out of the incubators and drowned as soon as they were hatched?

The duplicants have not been delivering the critters to the drowning room for some time if there are 5 extra critters in there.  I am not sure what type of drowning room you have, but if it is set to drown them immediately, you might change that to only drown them once per day, so that the drop-off is available for most of each cycle.  If your ranchers are all on the same schedule, you can set it to only drown the critters when the ranchers are asleep so that the drop-off is available for all the time that the ranchers are awake.

I see.  You can keep the eggs in the drowning room, and that will solve that problem.

Another thing you can do is to have the eggs drop onto a locked pneumatic door that has 2 liquids stacked inside it.  When a critter hatches, they will drown inside the door, but your auto sweepers and duplicants can still pick up the eggs and meat.  The critters inside the door do not count toward the room count.

But the sole purpose of having the CPips in the Nursery is that theyll hug the eggs, increasing the hatch speed.

All i want to is: Have at least one Pip in the nursery to hug the eggs. after hatching, critters that are not the pips are wrangled and removed of the room and carried to their ranchs or drowning room..

What is your purpose for wanting the pips to cuddle the eggs?  All it does is decrease the time for them to hatch.  Once your ranches have been set up for 20 cycles or more, the pips and powered incubators do not give any benefit at all.

Consider these 2 scenarios:

  1. You have a ranch with enough critters that it produces 1 egg every cycle.  You allow the eggs to hatch normally with no buffs or incubator and it takes 20 cycles for the eggs to hatch.  This ranch will give you 1 meat every cycle, but it takes 20 cycles to start producing meat.
  2. You have an identical ranch producing 1 egg every cycle.  You use cuddle pips and incubators and it takes 4 cycles for the eggs to hatch.  This ranch will give you 1 meat every cycle, but it only takes 4 cycles to start producing meat.

They both give the same amount of meat, but one takes 20 cycles to get started while the other one takes 4 cycles.  Once 20 cycles have passed, they are identical in every way.

The purpose for having an incubator is to give your duplicants a constant source of live critters to restock the ranches once a critter dies.  It is not for speeding up the incubation time, unless you are trying to get critter morphs or are just getting started.

Below is a ranch that has the drowning room incorporated into it.  The critter sensor will open the door when the critter count drops below 8, and the hatch will move to the right to avoid drowning.  Baby hatches can not jump, so they will always move to the right, and the other hatches will not path through liquids.

Once there are 8 critters in the room, the door will lock and any new critters will drown inside the door since it has stacked liquids in it.  One sweeper will pick up eggs and move them to the loader and drop the eggs inside the door.  The other sweeper will sweep the meat from the door to the loader.  Any morph eggs will get swept out of the room as well.
