Pinch Roe not getting the KCal from food while tamed.

I had a Pinch Roe that was spawned from a care package. I created a stable and had food delivered to a food ration box to spoil and a storage bin for polluted dirt, all inside the stable. I kept the critter feeder set to Pinch Roe, however, the polluted dirt portion of that continued to reset and instead the hatchling setting for the polluted dirt each day despite not housing any hatchlings. The Pinch Roe would eat from either the critter feeder or the rotting pile of mealwood or lice loaf, however, would only get the amount in actual weight, not the KCalories. This carried on until he starved and the stable was scratched. The Pinch Row never once shed his shell for me. This entire process lasted 20 cycles.
