Oxyfern is consuming chlorine while consuming co2

I've built a pit for a Rust Deoxidizer to gather some chlorine in it, and added some Oxyfern to get rid of the CO2 in the early game.
I noticed the pit not filling up with chlorine so i investigated it, and as it seems, the oxyfern is also consuming the chlorine gas while being activated from the CO2.
