Menu system is exceedingly slow

The main menu is extremely slow. It hangs and it feels like I'm working a slideshow, a very slow unresponsive slideshow.
I checked and found I'm getting a solid 1-2 fps

However it goes back to normal once you load up a old save or start a new one. However it returns once you open up the menus to load up other saves  

Edit: I found the cause, I had something like 330 save files and it caused the main menu to slow to a crawl. Once I removed them the problem fixed itself
