Lumbs and many land critters can walk on open doors and not fall through, however, if the game was saved, manaully or automatically, while a lumb is standing on an open door, that lumb will enter the falling state when the save is loaded and fall through.
Steps to Reproduce
1. Lumb on top of mechanized door set to open via automation
2. Save the game
3. Load the save
