Film Boiling exploit?

I have a pool of petroleum 7 tiles deep before it hits the insulated (igneous rock) with a geyser inside (1900°C). The insulated tile was at 540°C. The petrolium pool was at 100°C. It was boiling the oil to create sour gas (5kg packets rising out of the petrol pool). I'm not sure if film boiling is intended or an exploit. If it is intended can it be used to convert other things without bringing them to temperature, this would really simplify oil boiling? I could find nothing mentioning it with a quick google. The sour gas produced was at 200°C if I recall, which was hotter than anything else around.

Steps to Reproduce
Put Petrol at 100°C next to insulated tile >540°C.
