This kinda feels like cheating/exploiting as you can grow 2 plants in same area overlapping each other.
Steps to Reproduce
Pretty simple, doesn't matter which other you build the Planter Boxes / Farm Tiles ( i assume hydroponics will be the same ) The game will highlight the bottom outline of plant is red i.e blocked, but a dupe will still plant a seed. Plants will grow like normal allows you to increase your yield for smaller area.
