Buttons frequently not working

I have frequent issues with playing the game. When launching to the game menu, about 50-60% of the time buttons don't work properly. This includes 'Resume Game', 'New Game', 'Skills', 'Research', some of the overlays. I can always load into a game from the 'Load Game' button, if I do and the main menu buttons don't work, the in-game buttons mentioned also won't be working. 

I've tried many of the suggested resolutions for related issues, including verifying file integrity, disabling mods, restarting computer/Epic, disabling the firewall/adding exceptions for ONI, running both as administrator.  It's really weird, all I can do to deal with this is restarting the game multiple times until I can hit 'New Game', so the rest of the gameplay would be working better. Anyways, game is very buggy for me, I suspect it's due to playing on Epic. My theory is that the Epic overlay (achievement notifications/'social panel') is interfering with the game controls. I'm just on vanilla ONI, would be more interested in getting DLCs if the game worked better for me.
