The ancient specimen story trait often will spawn a magma patch in abyssalite in the middle of an oil biome at the bottom of the map (probably not on Verdante). That patch only has one layer of abyssalite. Since there often exist concentrated pockets of oil around, some oil will manage to exert enough pressure on the abyssalite to break the abyssalite and then magma mixes with oil and heats with the result of a naturally made sour gas boiler (but no condenser). I think I've also seen the magma just break one tile of abyssalite all by itself once, though I'm not sure of that.
1. Pick a Terra map and run it with the Ancient Specimen Story Trait.
2. Reveal the oil biome,
3. If there's no concentrated pocket of oil right next to the fossil patch, put a concentrated pocket of oil right next to the abyssalite near the fossil.
4. Run the game for a while and once the magma (or resulting igneous rock) becomes exposed to the crude oil, sour gas should result.
