Save corruption while moving from Reign of Giants to Hamlet

  • DLC VERSION - IMPORTANT!: Reign of Giants, Shipwrecked, Hamlet Pending

Initially I started in a reign of giants world. For about 450 days I stayed there, connecting with Hamlet and Shipwrecked (I forget whether I connected to the Hamlet or Shipwrecked first but they were set up pretty close to each other I believe, and were approximately at 100-150 days at the time of the save corruption). Then I moved to a new world in Reign of Giants, using the teleportato, stayed there for about 71 days and then tried travelling to the Hamlet world using the skyworthy. (I don't know if this would make a difference but shortly before I went on the Skyworthy I went to Shipwrecked from RoG and then quickly back to RoG). When I did try going to Hamlet I got a save corruption error message and now I can't access the save file at all. Whenever I try to load the file, i just get the same message, and I have to close the entire game to leave the save. I wonder if it may have something to do with all the new updates, as the save was created sometime in 2021, and then I used it for a few months after that and didn't use it again until now. I could be wrong though.

It would be a shame if the world was lost forever because it had over 500 days of progress.

User Feedback

Oops I forgot to reorder the steps to reproduce list. It should just be sequential, ignore the repeated digits and the 4 at the end. Sorry about that.

Also has this happened to anyone else. (Using the switch version)

Also, I just want to add the reason I stopped playing the world was because I had messed it up so much that I thought I had zero chance of survival. Somehow I ended up with 20 health, in the middle of the desert, surrounded by 10 fire hounds, in the middle of summer, in the middle of the day, with nothing in my inventory or equipped. I'm not even exaggerating, somehow. I kind of forget how I got involved in that scenario in the first place but I think I died by accident and then was revived at a touchstone, and then died again because I had no equipment, then was revived in shipwrecked, but then, fatally, didn't bring enough stuff with me back to RoG, and then I think I died again and was revived at another touchstone or something, and then there was a massive hound wave. Even if I managed to escape the hounds the walk back to base was far too long, and I would die of overheating long before I got there. SO I assumed the world was gone and just left it. It was literally impossible to continue in that world, no matter what I did. Nothing could've helped, there were no butterflies or mushrooms or anything. Not even save scumming could help, as I would just be right next to the hounds with nowhere to shelter from the heat. It seemed so preventable, but also inevitable. But due to the buginess of the switch version I was able to see a glimmer of hope. There was an open cave quite close to the place I was at. I realised in the switch version for worlds more than around a year old going into the caves and then exiting will almost always change the season. So I was able to change the season to winter, and survived the way back to base. And then the world's save corrupted immediately afterwards.
