Can't launch the game from steam.

I've been trying to play the game since I bought it on sale, but whenever I try to launch it from steam it just won't start. Instead, from my steam library window it will appear something like "launching. running install script (microsoft directx)" next to the "play" button. If I wait a little time it will start but the loading screen will crash immediately.
