Cannot start any new DS game or see old saves

Tirabi
  • DLC VERSION - IMPORTANT!: Vanilla - NO DLC Pending

I have been trying for 3 days to start a game of DS on my PC.

Windows 10, 4080 with up to date drivers.

I have performed every imaginable step to get the game to load to no avail.

I've unistalled multiple times, validated, you name it.

Description:

When I click Play, it comes up with the save slots (no past saves but my steam deck can see my old save and play it).   When I choose a game type and click start, it says loading for 2 seconds and them comes back to the Play screen.

I checked the event viewer log and I do see the following error each time I attempt to start a game.:

I disabled every setting in GameBar and got an error in Dont starve.  I tried to submit it but that fails repeatedly too.  See attached.

User Feedback

I got the game started.  I went into settings.ini and changed first time install to true.  It populated a world and i got in..  I'm almost wondering if the game doesn't have permission to write to the settings.ini file.

System.ini seems to be in conflict with steam properties for the game.

If I turn cloud saves ON or OFF in steam for this game within the steam library for this game, the game will not run.

However, if i edit the system.ini file to true, the game plays.

[STEAM]
DISABLECLOUD = true

I'm not sure if steam has a separate ini file for games, but the game and steam are not communicating settings to each other.

Each time I quit and save the local game, Steam has switched the property back to use Steam Cloud.
