Cannot set up controller

I have followed every steps to set up my new controller, but when i go into the control options in the game i only see "keyboard and mouse". My controller is connected to my computer and is working within steam. The icon of the controller is also there on the "don't starve page" in my library before i run the game. Any input on why it is not working and what should i do?! (My game is also up to date!) 

Steps to Reproduce

Right after i run the game, i go to controls pannel and nothing appears except for the keyboard and mouse optio

having this exact problem and got zero answer, I doubt they even know what's the issue. used to be able to play on steam with my ps5 controller but tried recently and doesn't work at all.

I have the Same Problem did anyone solve this yet?

I am unable to reproduce this issue with a PS5 controller that is plugged in wired. I'd recommend trying to ensure the controller is plugged in before launching the game.

Running Zorin Linux with Steam and an XBox controller, but the controller won't work with the official layout. I tried using some other Steam user's published layout, but I really didn't care for it. Controller is connected through Bluetooth and works in other games, so I wonder how to tweak the settings to get this to work. Any ideas would be helpful.
