He is nowhere to be found in the ruins level.
I did run past a Seed of Ruin. I thought that was only supposed to drop from the ancient guardian.
Note I previously submitted a report on the same game where chester and the eyeball were doing weird cave related things.

Follow the edge around the ruins.
