Zaptrocutor deals no damage to Shadow Chess Pieces

The Zaptrocutor is unable to deal any damage to Shadow Chess Pieces.

I don’t believe this is intentional design. Common creatures such as Pigmen and even Catapults can attack Shadow Chess Pieces, which proves they are not restricted like pure shadow entities that only the player can harm.

Steps to Reproduce
  1. Spawn Shadow Chess Pieces.
  2. Attack them with the Zaptrocutor and check if any damage is dealt.

Working as Intended.

The Possessed Chassis will be a bit smarter and not use the Zaptrocuter towards creatures that are immune, though.

This result is shocking to me. Could you clarify the classification rationale behind this?

Winona's Catapult—also part of the Wagstaff tech line—can deal damage to Shadow Chess Pieces, Shadow Thralls, Grazer, and Celestial Scion. Yet the Zaptrocutor cannot ( I also noticed neither of them can deal damage to ghost-type creatures either ) .

Could you provide a design explanation for this inconsistency? @omar_klei

Sorry for tagging the developers directly, but I’m genuinely really confused and curious about this design choice.

If you want the answer it’s because shadows are immune to the stun for electricity.

However, they are not immune to electric damage and still take extra damage from being wet, so I think the developers might be wrong with this one. It should deal damage, but not stun.

No, that doesn't seem to be the case. There are already counterexamples like Rock Lobster and Chaos Chests — they take damage from the Electric Eel Caster but don't get stunned by it at all.
The tag that makes certain creatures completely immune is clearly added on purpose. I think it seriously misleads players and breaks the game's consistency in how we understand its mechanics.

From my experience, celestial champion was completly immune to my bishop army and didn’t show signs of taking damage.

Rock lobsters and stuff take zero electric damage. The damage they are taking is physical damage, not electric.

Im pretty sure this is because it’s pure electricity. They take some damage from the morning star because it has physical damage as well. but I haven’t tested this, this is just what I experienced from gameplay. The drone also is pure electricity and I think uses the same projectile as bishops.
