WX-78: The skill Inhabited Machine II fails to spawn backup body when using Shadow Affinity temporary charge

The skill Inhabited Machine II that spawns a backup chassis works inconsistently when the real charge is not full but the player consumed a nightmare fuel. The game spawns the chassis in these conditions only sometimes, but other times it fails with the same initial conditions and WX-78 dies normally even though the effect of the nightmare fuel is clearly in play.


Steps to Reproduce

Be a WX-78 with Inhabited Machine II skill and Shadow Survivor skill.

Consume a nightmare fuel while the actual charge is not full.

Die repeatedly with these conditions.

The first time after the server loads it works as expected, but other times it is inconsistent and WX-78 just dies normally.

@exuni Are you sure you have a free backup chassis slot? Inhabited Machine II requires that you have a free backup chassis, otherwise you will die normally even with full regular charge.

@omar_klei I have tested more. The bug is always present with "Don't Starve Alone" mod. Without the mod everything works in one world, but not in another with the same settings. But the tests are inconsistent. Even without the server mod the issue persists after the world is regenerated. After the world without caves is regenerated as a timeout because everyone died on the server, in the new server with caves the skill does not spawn a chassis correctly with the conditions met at all.

 

So without caves it works for 2 different words every time correctly. With caves it does not work cosistently.

@omar_klei And yes, I do have a back up chassis available, as I use the minimal skill tree for the testing: Inhabited Machine II and Shadow Survivor. So I only have 1 backup buddy available at most, so it is easier to test.

So it seems the presence of caves on the server might be the culprit. In my tests I have not entered the caves, if that might affect anything.

To make it clear, whether caves are enabled on the server seems to make a difference, and not whether the death occurs in the caves directly.

Sidemote: I also reproduced the bug on a public Klei official server.

And on the official server the bug happened only once, but all consecutive times it worked correctly.

And then it could be also reproduced on a Klei server by going to caves and instantly causing a death while the charge is temporarily maxed out.

An addition note: the bug does not exist at all on Meow Together 6 surface server besides the local worlds without caves, meaning the skill works every time from day 1 for old worlds and new worlds, even after regen/rollbacks. Caves of the server still fail.
