UNABLE TO PLANT TREES IN DONT STARVE

Good day
I have purchased dont starve together on my macbook air via steam and i am playing using a ps4 dual shock controller. When i am playing and i wish to plant trees or bushes it doest seem to work. It is right on the dpad to plant. When i press right the option flickers for a little bit and it looks like it is about to plant but it doesnt. I have a shovel so i should be able to plant. I went to the settings and tried to bind right on dpad to the plant but it didnt help. i reset my settings and i still cant plant. please help. it is hindering my experience with the game. i am able to plant using my controller playing dont starve on the iphone. please help. i would like exact steps on how to fix it
