If you have meat on you and have the rabbit king cudgel equipped, bunnymen ignore you. However, if gestalts put you to sleep then they immediately turn on you.
It happened to me during the winter when gestalts can be camouflaged by the snow (or hidden behind hutches) and there was no way to defend against it since I was asleep.
Steps to Reproduce
Go to the lunar island for gestalts (or assemble the lunar altars to spawn the mysterious energy).
Equip the Rabbit King Cudgel and have meat in your inventory.
Spawn bunnymen nearby.
Allow yourself to be put to sleep by gestalts and get mauled by bunnymen.
