Sound glitches and game crashing when fighting mobs

The video shows all the issues.

Description:
During a WX-78 run trying out the recent update, i made it to day 82 without any issues, but then i used the florid postern to go back to the character select screen just to pick different skills and that's when the sound glitch first happened, later on i got hit by a volt goat and a bunch of glitches happened and then the game crashed.
Afterwards every single new world i create has all of these issues, and now i am unable to play the game.

Main issues:
- various sounds/tracks glitched or muted
- fighting mobs freezes the game and eventually crashes it (unsure if it is ALL mobs)

Details:
- no audio is muted in the settings
- The run mentioned above had mods enabled, but it happens with none enabled too (as seen in the video)
- save type is local, not cloud
- joined a dedicated server from the browser, same problem
- this issue first happened on April 27th

Troubleshooting done:
- drivers are up to date
- disabled NVIDIA optimization
- verified integrity of files (this is the steam version)
- disabled mods/created new saves
- tried old saves (they seemingly work fine)
- sent the save folder to a friend to try it (seemingly works fine for them)

misc:
- the video shows this with a frog, but it first happened with a volt goat and it also happened with bees and spiders, so i am only assuming it happens with anything now.
- it skipped immediately to crashing when a volt goat hit WX-78 with the electrification circuit plugged in

I would love to just be able to play the game again, but if i could be told WHY this is happening too that would be great for my curiosity, and please ask me for anything else i should include in here if needed.
