sometimes only one autograbber will function (WX-78)

Playing Wx-78 with two autograbbers. dropping an item next to cactus then picking up so grabbers pick the cactus for me.
Only one grabber is working; other follows me but does not grab. Just waiting for the first grabber to finish its drop off and go for the next cactus instead of helping.
