I believe this issue is because they have a similar logic to Polly Roger, where they pick up what's furthest first, and this drone didn't do anything, cause the other drone had a longer distance, therefore it became it's job, which makes them inefficient sadly.
Perhaps, as a suggestion / solution could be to give them pickup queues (for example up to 5), because currently, there's also another issue that I pickup 5 logs, and in that time autograbber only picks up 1 and then doesn't pick any further, which usually if I pick up 5 things, it'd mean that the grabber also picks up 5 things. I remember on a Dev cast something similar, maybe it was winbots that queued up 5 tasks? (i will edit if I remember)
