If Wortox is nearby a chest with creatures dying inside of it (e.g., rabbits dying due to not being fed) no Souls are spawned. This lack of consistency (creatures dying near Wortox but no souls) seems like a potential bug or small oversight.
Although just a minor in-consistency, and seemingly not relevant to most gameplay, ensuring that nearby soulful creatures dying always release souls (whether they are in a chest, or a backpack, another character's inventory, etc...) would enable cool plays (e.g., carefully timing a fight so it starts when lots of butterflies expire in a nearby chest). This kind of trickery seems like something a clever and naughty imp might do!
Put bees in a nearby chest and wait with the chest open or closed until they expire: no souls.
Put the same bees in Wortox's inventory and wait till the bees expire: souls.
