if holding left alt and eating a mandrake, instead of eating it the mandrake stays in your inventory but still puts you to sleep.
after you get up, the game apparently believes you are eating the mandrake again, so you get stuck in a cycle of sleeping. you do not get health or hunger from this. to stop the cycle just drop the mandrake. this works while riding a beefalo as well
if you eat a mandrake without holding left alt it functions as intended.

hold left alt and right click the mandrake.
