I've been testing the giant worm spawning time since I've never seen it in my 400ish day world, and I think their timer gets reset every time you get to the caves, so you have to spend a long time down in the caves and be very lucky.
Steps to Reproduce
Straight away trigger a worm attack each time you get to the caves and it won't appear, unless very lucky and spending an extremely amount of time
