Cloud save connection setbacks

Recently converted my local save world to a cloud save after a close call with my computer breaking. However, recently my internet connection has been dropping periodically from my PC. Didn't think this would cause an issue due to it not being in other cloud saving games, but the following happened:

  1. Loaded up my game, spawned up on the surface where I disconnected last.
  2. played on the surface for several days, then went down to the caves for the summer
  3. instead of loading at the cave entrance in the caves, I loaded in outside the map bounds in the caves. Everything i had in my inventory before had reverted back to what i had when i launched the game
  4. got confused and rolled back the world 1 day, ended up back on the surface several days ago back to where i was when i launched the game.

I tried again a few days later and instead of rolling back, i just went back up to the surface and i spawned once again where i was when the game launched, instead of the cave entrance.

Had another player go through my logs to see what happened, this is what he reckoned happened:

"Were you using cloud saves? If so, your crappy internet kept DCing you from klei's server authentication, and probably made your server save sessions not upload properly
your server was still regularly saving, but for some reason it was not "truncating" older saves (AKA if you host in game by default it will keep the latest 5 sessions; call this saves 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 for example

on making save 11, it removes save 6 and associated save files and on save 12 it removes save 7 and so forth

your log indicates it was not doing this truncating behavior, AKA the newer saves weren't even registering for some reason"

(image attached is where i spawned vs where the entrance is (orange circle))

Steps to Reproduce

not entirely sure about reproduction, but this is another persons idea:

"I would suggest they (and this sounds pretty bad tbh) throttling their connection while playing in their own self hosted server not completely cutting it, but purposely discarding packets/shedding data to the point that cloud uploads can't happen mid game"

logs will give a clearer idea of what to do i reckon, doesnt seem to be a straight forward thing so there may be layers to reproduction

User Feedback

been having the same issue. however, i use windows 11 and my friend uses window 10. and we both made cloud save worlds. my friend doesnt have the issue. i keep having this issue. we are on same internet so.. also my pc is newer and has better specs.

wish this issue gets solved. its related to the caves. if not for caves, it does not happen. also at some point after the cave save error, i get dedicated server fail and can never get back in..

I'm on windows 10. Who hosted the server?

from what I'm seeing it's a caves issue. my rollback wasn't the issue, only highlighted it

yup i agree its a cave and cloud save issue. ive hosted the server and my friend also hosted a server. we used the same seed. we both took turns making the server. mine failed constantly and the day the fail happened seemed to get faster and faster. my friend's server is running fine at least so far. mine failed at 290 days and 91 and the last one before 20. so tried my friend and theirs was fine at least until now and it's 93
