Broken Shadow Reaper still can reap plants

Holding a Broken Shadow Reaper over a reapable plant, while holding any other handheld item will allow you to reap 
it puts the shadow reaper at -1% until you put it back in your inventory or on the floor, and will stay -1% if done with a controller (thats how i did it)
