So I tried to cheese a regular beehive the other day to get honey and beeswax. I lit the beehive with a torch so that all the bees would come out and then extinguished the flaming hive with a watering can to preserve the drops. To my surprise, the bees tried to re-enter the extinguished hive during the broken animation. Afterwards, the bees inside the hive despawned along with the broken hive.
I first accomplished this on one of the official Kiel servers with a few client side mods enabled. The following images were recreated in my test world; no server-side mods were enabled.
1. Light a beehive on fire
2. Wait for all the bees to exit the hive. Then wait for all the bees to lay on the floor.
3. Quickly put out the fire with a watering can, and destroy the hive with a weapon.
During the "broken" animation of the beehive, the circled bee "re-entered" the hive and disappeared with the it.
