You somehow starts the game already knowing the recipe, but the in description it says "Use Science Machine to prototype".
And when you try to prototype it, you never learn the recipe, everytime you need to crafter other one, you need to go next to a machine.
Steps to Reproduce
Try to craft Beefalo Bell far away from Science Machine.
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
