Any Mac users here? I need help launching the game after MacOS Tahoe update...

Hi everyone

I have been playing DST via Crossover (Windows emulating app) for many years. However, after the recent MacOS Tahoe 26.3 update, I can't even launch the game. The game enters a short blackscreen and then I am back to the Steam window. I even tried playing the game natively via SteamOS app which I never used (so no Mods etc.) and it won't start the game (however there is a bug report, see attachment).

I have been writing with the Klei support for a couple of times but they don't seem to be able to help me... So maybe anyone else has the same issue or has some additional ideas how to start playing Don't Starve Together with my friends again... :,-(

Kind regards and thanks,
Simon

DST SteamOS Bug Report.txt

Steps to Reproduce

I just started the game with Crossover (both options) and SteamOS and it won't start. It only occured after the MacOS Tahoe 26.3 update, I think (my friends and I have been playing another game for a couple of months before we wanted to switch back to DST).

User Feedback

Any updates on a possibly bug fix for all MacOS Tahoe users? I hoped that maybe the update to Mac OS Tahoe 26.5 might change something, but unfortunately not... Still not able to play DST on a up-to-date Macbook it seems... :(

Any reason why you have been running the game through Crossover instead of natively on MacOS? I've been playing the MacOS version without any issues. I'd suggest trying to install it again and doing the following:

Go to System Settings, then Privacy & Security. At the bottom of the list of options (under “Security”) there might pop up a report that you can't open the game because it's by an unknown developer. Click on this message and enable to force MacOS to open the application anyway. Let me know if this works out for you!

This might help:

hey hey my friend

first of all, thanks for the attempt to help! :)

i tried both with crossover and natively on steamOS. nothing worked so far. if you are able to play the game: do you also use MacOS Tahoe 26.5 (or 26.3/26.4)? because it used to work before the mac update.

i un- and reinstalled the game a couple of times. never worked, but i will try it again, like you said. will let you know if it works...

EDIT: there is no pop up under "security" (system settings) and DST and Steam already were allowed to be opened (full access allowed).

EDIT 2: i also tried to open it the other way (your link above), but there never is an "game is damaged" pop up and i also tried opening it via "browse local files". the result is always the same: there is a short silence of nothing happening and then the mac bug report (see way above) is shown.

I FIGURED IT OUT! For anyone with the same problem: On SteamOS I couldn't fix the problem, but via Crossover I started messing around with the bottle settings/configurations of Steam. When you choose D3DMetal, MSync and high Resolution Mode, the game actually started in windowed mode. :D

The problem is just that these settings won't work with other games (Peak was very strange to play), so I have to change the settings every time I play another game and restart Crossover afterwards. Annoying, but at least it works for me.

Unfortunately the next update to MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1 already made my progress go away. Nothing works anymore. Tried all settings... It's so f*cking annoying!
