Alt tabbing from game on Mac causes game to become extremely jittery

The game works perfectly fine after opening it for the first time. However if I alt-tab, or leave full screen mode in anyway (I am playing with fullscreen mode disabled) the game becomes a jittery mess. In addition, if I then try to quit and reenter any single player world, I will suddenly have a "dedicated server failed to start" error in addition to the message "dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer quit unexpectedly, forcing me to have to quit and reopen the client in steam to get the game to function. Note that enabling fullscreen mode in the settings "fixes" this issue by simply not allowing me to alt tab away from the game in any way shape or form other than quitting out of the application but that is not exactly ideal. The dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer message does not always appear, and sometimes it's just the dedicated server failed to start message in game that shows up. This is a public server run locally with no one else online. I've verified the integrity of the game files and I have two server mods and a small handful of client mods (~5-7) enabled all of which I have deleted and reinstalled multiple times. I fear this is probably multiple issues compounding on top of each other, but I can't find any examples of other people with similar symptoms.
