I was attempting a run on the beta branch and after the nightmare phase ended, I advanced more into the mud biome to be attacked by several shadow creatures that didn't despawn. I wasn't insane, btw.
Attacking them didn't trigger the despawn, and as you can see on the images, there's no nightmare fissures and a good amount of nightmare creatures.
Steps to Reproduce
Not sure. The only thing I did differently was starting the world in Spring season
