Monitor used for issue: LG DualUp (16:18). I believe 32:9 is handled more gracefully. I also want to point out that when the game does open, what I can see of the game is on the very corner of the *wrong display* (Its not on the primary). Nothing is rendered to the expected display. The window hard cuts off between the two monitors. It is also not possible to change the necessary relevant settings to do anything meaningful with the game. This was done on a fresh install of the game with C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Klei\ deleted before starting to test.
Workarounds:
A - You have another common resolution monitor
1. Go to your system display settings and ensure the common resolution display is set as your primary display.
2. Open the game and set the game to windowed in settings.
3. Exit the game to ensure settings is saved to file.
4. Reopen the game and change settings as desired.
OR
1. Try setting the common resolution monitor as your primary display.
2. Set all settings.
3. Switch primary monitor back.
B -
1. Go into your settings file at C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\<numbers>\client.ini
2. Set fullscreen = false and save the file.
3. Reopen the client and adjust settings and display as needed.
One thing to notice is if fullscreen = false, the game displays on the expected monitor. You will want to make sure you don't set fullscreen = true again until you have it set to the proper monitor you want to play on.
To be clear, this post isn't asking for full 16:18 or 32:9 resolution support. Its requesting the settings be handled more gracefully so customers can make needed changes despite unexpected circumstances. FWIW the bottom of the fullscreen window seems to end in the middle of the dual up display (if it were extended over to it. None of this window renders in the 16:18 display). This also affects Don't Starve as well. If you are reusing code between games for these settings, it probably affects all of them.
Open fresh install of game with an uncommon resolution monitor set as primary. Full screen is required, but should be on by default with a fresh install.
