While pinning an item with a skin I can only seem to do it with a few select items such as torches and backpacks, but cannot do it with axes or pickaxes. It will just keep it as default and when crafted using the pin it will be default skin.
Steps to Reproduce
Unpin axe from pinned recipes
Attempt to re-pin it with a skin
Craft the axe, should be default
