The simplified Chinese translation for "Celestial Champion" is "天体英雄", where "英雄" means "hero". Considering that CC's prefab name is "alterguardian", it's pretty clear here "champion" means "protector", not "hero". This matches its behaviour lore wise too, Alter is annoyed by Wagstaff siphoning its power, so it send a protector to defend itself.
Don't you dare pulling out the "but players are used to the name" card, you've already changed Wagstaff's tool names when their names need to be memorised. IF YOU ARE FINE WITH CHANGING THAT, IT SHOULD BE THE SAME FOR CELESTIAL CHAMPION.
p.s. the lush carpet has a similar issue where "lush" is translated as "plants overgrown" instead of "luxurious".
