It looks like you can't use Calibrated Receivers to learn the recipe for Purple Gems. You can use them to learn the recipes for other magic items like pan flutes and nightmare fuel, but it doesn't work for Purple Gems.
Steps to Reproduce
As Winona try to use a Calibrated Receiver on a purple gem while it is not already prototyped. You do not have the option to do so.
