Metal refinery power

Recommended Posts

While browsing yesterday and came across this thread i-got-steam-turbin-to-work-but-not-for-mass-power-production which got me to thinking about steam power in general and this idea in particular so after modifying Goatt's design I have found what seems to be a fairly good way to use the metal refinery to self power plus a little extra, and I believe this could be expanded to two steam turbines to produce even more.

I believe the absolute most important thing to make this work is to keep your fresh water supply below 206 degrees, if everything is working correctly you should form a vacuum above the water line which isolates a lot of the steam heat away from  direct contact with fresh water (best temp seem to be around the 170'ish mark for the fresh water side as it is amazing how low it keeps the outlet pressure from the turbine) In my setup I am using polluted water driven thru a water filter to help keep my fresh water temps down,.

I swap out water from the tank at a pretty high rate (I believe you could add a second turbine and drive an aqua tuner to keep water cool and still be power positive) the automation closes the door to make sure the temp stays above 448 and also will not open before there is a minimum of 20k of steam (typically speaking there will be from 150 to as much as 400k of steam when the door opens) all in all I am very happy with it and it has worked perfectly for the time it took for the dupes to make around 87 tons of steel (I used some of it ) it kills about 300 degrees from the refinery coolant and returns about 1000kw in power

Highest turbine outlet pressure I have seen with this current build is around 10-15kg with inlet pressures between 150-400kg, fresh water temps range between 147 to as high as 206 at times, extending the cooling plates up into the steam actually causes all sorts of problems, the way I have it seems to return the most water with the least latent heat

Thank you Goatt for the idea

P.s. this does not use any clamping or secondary gases above the steam outlet to make it work, obviously could be reduced in size as it was a test bed
