jperk82
Since we have biological and chemical hazards, any thoughts on radiological hazards? Radiation sickness, contamination, special walls for containment, thermal management for nuclear power generation. Suit types specific to biological or nuclear hazards (or advanced multipurpose suits). Reactor meltdowns with molten material leaking down from the reactors if it gets too hot; must build a containment for the material if it happens (no way to clean, or maybe there is some difficult advanced tech that can). You could make the reactors work properly thermally, generating steam, but you could add hazards to that like radioactivity of the output from the reactor, but if it is a proper closed and managed system, it is beneficial for power generation (may even produce a little uncontaminated water/steam as a byproduct as well, for example takes in x grams/sec puts out 1/20 grams/sec). Or, you could leave it as a "black-box" that generates power with no inputs except fission material (much like the coal plants are in the game), but with only high thermal output, plus any hazards for mismanagement. The radiation can contaminate other objects much the same was as germs already work in the game, but you could play with the transmission from object to object, going through some materials, but not through others. Water could be a useful insulator for this, perhaps. Lots of ideas to play with there. Just some thoughts for fun, I'm sure you've already looked at the nuclear side. jperk82
Further thoughts on water input for fission: perhaps it works as a container. Capacity x tons water and y grams fissile material. Fissile material takes a while to be used up, but water slowly converts to steam. Reactor must keep x% of water to function properly and remain cooled enough inside (can be piped to). If water gets too low or runs out, bad things happen. In addition, the surroundings also get hotter during operation regardless of water in the reactor. If it gets too hot because of the surrounding, bad things happen. That could be the starting premise for the reactor, in addition to other potential hazards or quirks.
