Extending Existing Item

I am looking to extend on the properties of a current item; and therefore creating a new one which essentially uses the same skin, icon and animation. To be more specific; I would like to introduce a legendary fishing rod which does not diminish after each use but I see no reason why I would have to package custom animations and icons as that would be redundant seeing as the animations I want to work with are already loaded in the game.
