Combat and multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum but I've been playing Don't Starve for quite a bit.

I used to be addicted to Troll Tribes on WCIII and I'm extremely hyped regarding Together.

In Troll Tribes, there was an interesting mechanic where each member of the tribe (4 person) had the option to leave and play solo. The game isn't at that point yet, as TT played four vs four vs four, but even so it reminded me a lot of more recent games like Dayz, where players can cooperate but also betray each other on a whim.

The other aspect of combat I wanted to discuss is specifically tied to the axis movement in Don't Starve.

While it may alter the coding of the models, I think it would be great if characters could advance in combat training, to the point of having Legend of Zelda style fighting abilities.

Swinging a weapon in four directions and dodging/rolling could make battles in game fast-paced and add a bit of action element to the current straightforward combat system.

It would also make for addicting multiplayer, there was an MMO in the past called Graal Online with four axis weapon swings, (think Zelda) and open PVP. Within its community, the game had longevity, both for modding/world building and PVP.

I think the direction of the current game is brilliant and I have no intention of speeding up the flow of the game, but whenever a Tallbird attacks me at the beginning of the game I always ponder how amazing it would be if I could roll around it and take it down with my trusty axe.

Thanks for reading.

If combat was focused on this much then I feel like it would take away from the point of Together. Don't Starve is not spectacular because of the combat. We love Don't Starve because of the diverse survival aspects, so I'd like to see more focus on surviving 'together' rather than focus on PvP. I have heard that the game will be altered slightly to make it more difficult to survive in groups, so I assume that just means large hound packs and such.
