chiablo
The objective of the game is very simple: "Don't Starve". However, I found that it is nearly impossible to starve in the game. In the dozen or so games I've played, I haven't even gotten near starving. Even as a clueless player, it's very easy to maintain a constant supply of food, just with varying amounts of busy work.It seems that everyone treats this game as equivalent to Minecraft or Terraria, where the objective is to become stable and self-sufficient. I think it should embrace the survival concept fully and make the player struggle for survival throughout the game.I think it would be a good challenge to have the amount of food available in the world diminish the longer the player is there. Animals become more rare, berry bushes turn into twigs, and farm plots take increasing amounts of fertilizer for food to grow. With an endgame in place, the goal will be to finish the game before starvation takes hold. Perhaps after killing the boss, or solving the puzzle, or whatever the end goal is, food will become more plentiful again and the player can treat it as a sandbox. Burningfox6
Well, they call it Don't Starve because it's a survival game, but I get where you're going at. They'll be adding a new thing up with hunger and health. It has yet been released, but It may be thirst or fatigue. I like where they're going at it.Anyways, I think if they had a hard mode, they maybe could add that idea of food being scarce.Sincerely,Fox. Estridde
Think of it this way: If you starve you're doing it wrong. mobius187
The objective of the game is very simple: "Don't Starve". However, I found that it is nearly impossible to starve in the game.Well did you actually try? It seems that everyone treats this game as equivalent to Minecraft or Terraria, where the objective is to become stable and self-sufficient. I think it should embrace the survival concept fully and make the player struggle for survival throughout the game.I think we should have both... as eventually we've been told that we'll need to abandon everything we've built to travel to another... place. It will be a one-way ticket, so be sure to pack well.I think it would be a good challenge to have the amount of food available in the world diminish the longer the player is there. The Devs have certainly discussed making the game harder as time progresses, although I wouldn't need to see resources and animals die arbitrarily based on the idea. However certain events, like the seasons, will impact the difficulty. For example, when winter rolls in I'm sure it will become much harder to survive. And yes, winter is coming (the Devs have confirmed it).Think of it this way: If you starve you're doing it wrong. In a nutshell... yes.
