vdubjunkie
Hi all, Apologies if this is not the right forum. We recently put Don't Starve on our PS4 and I am hooked. The competition for time on the PS4 is steep though, so I bought the game via Steam on my Mac. Thankfully the controller works perfectly. However, I'm not quickly getting over that fact that I don't have the same control structure in the game as on the PS4. It says things like Button 8 or DPad Left instead of showing the icons that I have on my controller. I did some investigative work to find where this is set, but I am just not finding which file(s) I might need to alter to accomplish this. I see some files like ps4_controllers.xml, but I'm just not getting anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. zeropoint101
Hi. This is actually the forum about mods and mod tools. A moderator may end up moving it, but it's no big deal I don't think. You probably need to download a program called xbox360ce(xbox 360 controller emulator). Just google it. Most games with controller support are setup to work the easiest with xbox 360 controller, and this program basically fools the game into thinking that's what you have. The program can be a bit confusing at first, so just watch a youtube video or two on how to set it up. It's not that hard once you know. What Don't Starve is doing is assigning it as a "generic controller", which will just give you the "button 1", "dpad left", etc. If you go into "controls" in the settings menu in the game, you can click left or right and it will give you the choices of keyboard mouse, xbox 360 controller, or generic controller that you can see. When you get x360ce installed, just make sure you don't have two controllers "enabled" at once as this randomly seems to happen(very occasionally) and gives you weird problems like one button trying to do two different actions. If there is something to make it act and show onscreen buttons as a PS4 controller itself, I haven't heard of it, but you could try looking around. From what I know thought, I'm pretty sure there isn't. Ask if you have any trouble getting it going..
