Lunar WX is extremely complicated and you are often forced to play around it, making it very unfriendly to add to a skill tree build unless you planned around it. While i didn't mind doing this (i teleport very rarely so it made sense to just turn the rest into minions), a lot of people do, and so having the shadow affinity be as simple as it was made WX approachable without having to give up an impactful affinity. Now, this isn't really true. Shadow affinity's drones are now a lot more effort for less results. The exploiterator in particular is inconsistent, low impact, and honestly just outright frustrating to use. The grabbers are relatively fine, but I also not like having to craft either of the drones. Both drones should just be an inherent part of the component, especially if they just drop what it took to craft them anyways when you remove the implant. I would appreciate it if the exploiterators at least scaled up damage the longer they scan something. That way, they become more impactful the longer they maintain their scan. 10% damage increase with the shadow atrium is extremely minimal for the cost, and 20% total increase with the possessed shadow atrium is honestly a little mean. It would make sense if these values went up a bit over time for WX specifically (maybe something like 20% and 40% respectively? probably too much for the latter but that general idea) would make a lot of sense for scanner drones that "exploit" the enemy by finding weaknesses. Everyone else gaining a 20% damage boost is pretty good, but giving something extra for the WX with the skill would be nice. Also, this is just me, and I don't know if they plan on expanding on them, but I do not really like the new drone designs at all. They have the complete opposite problem of the old shadow affinity. They just look like normal drones with the shadow effect over them. Nothing gives me the impression that these are special shadow drones. Maybe they can look cracked or damaged with nightmare fuel oozing out of them, or have a color scheme more resembling their shadow nature similar to Bernie or Woby. Maybe they can have the appearance of dreadstone or dark tatters on them, just anything to make them look more like they belong to the shadow affinity. I just can't see what makes these drones shadow otherwise or even why they would need to be locked behind a shadow affinity when they look so normal. However, the combat drones have many issues that just makes them worse and feel clunky to use. The combat drones have a scan time limit and stop scanning way too easily. Which is annoying given the damage boost they give was nerfed majorly. Making the overall damage even lower. The drone should just stay locked to the target you are fighting. Only disengaging when you switch targets, move really far away, die, or kill your target. I really like the idea of damage scaling the longer they scan. I hope klei can take notes from this! I think drones should just be unlocked automatically when you take shadow. It’s not as if almost every other damage boost is just a passive boost that you either eat food or activate a character ability for. 5% per drone that kills itself after a while is insultingly bad. I would prefer them to stay around and maybe increase damage over time as they scan. Staying locked to their target as well.
