updates without interface pref changes

Any chance that game updates could be rolled out without changing the interface settings? Today's update has changed the display resolution to make the controls smaller than I can see. Without a magnifying glass, I can't even find the controls to change the resolution back to my usual. One of the things that I like about this game is that the graphic style makes it much easier for me to interpret the screen. Much easier than realistic styles. Might be something worth building into the options more broadly, like the Clean HUD mod does.
