Question about wild ranching pokeshells to get sanishells

I have an idea to gather a few pokeshells and place them in the water tank I use as the source and output of my latrine loop.  I dump tons of polluted dirt and such into the place.  The idea is that, since it's plain water, eventually they will lay a sanishell egg and it will cleanse the tank.  will this plan work?

Yes, eventually it will work. However, wild crab needs 60 cycles to lay an egg, so it will take time. You can use Critter Flux-O-Matic to make this almost immediately. 

Also, feeding wild critters isnt required

Flux-o-matic's not a bad idea.  But I think I only have 3 base critters to use it with: Drecko, Hatch, maybe Pokeshell.  I guess I could include Slicksters in that.  Can it scan Pacu somehow?

 

Additionally, would my idea work with domesticated crabs or would I need a whole setup?

You can scan pacu. Just manually move them into cell of interest.

So...it's funny.  I've tried the Flux o matic with 4 pokeshells so far.  All of them became oakshells.  I'm running out of wild pokeshells.

So the flux o matic will never have the possibility of making a sanishell?  I thought it was based on the probability of each non-base morph.  Meaning that it's a one in three chance in this case.

It’s based off the probability of that particular critter laying a morph. If the base morph egg is at 100% though then the rest of the morphs are at 0%, so then it just uses the first critter in a not so obvious list

Well that sucks.  Back to plan B, then.

 

EDIT:  I did not realize that you could potentially *reset* oakshells to sanishells by dumping them in water.  I now have a 7-cycle-old pokeshell (almost guaranteed) chilling out in there as well as 4 oakshells.  I think I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a sanishell when one of them hits 60.

Throw Pokeshell into clean water. After two-three cycles in it will have some chance of laying sanishell egg. Thats will be enough for Flux-o-matic to convert it properly

Yes, that absolutely worked.  I even have a sanishell roe from one of the oakshells in there, so they'll join up and let their powers combine.
