Dear Klei Team,
I am a dedicated fan of Oxygen Not Included. As my colonies become more sophisticated, I have realized that a Native Blueprint System would be a transformative addition to the gameplay experience.
My Suggestion:
I propose adding an in-game tool that allows players to save their complex designs (such as SPOMs, industrial bricks, or geyser tamers) as blueprints. These blueprints should be capable of generating shareable strings/codes, enabling players to reuse their optimized layouts across different saves or share them with the broader community.
Progression-Based Integration:
To maintain game balance, I suggest linking the blueprint capacity to the Research Tree:
  • Early Game: Unlock a basic "Blueprint Desk" with 2 save slots.
  • Mid-to-Late Game: Research upgrades to expand to 4, 10, or more slots.
  • End Game: Introduce a "Blueprint Book" (similar to the system in Factorio) for organized, large-scale storage and categorization.
The Benefits:
Currently, replicating a complex design requires tedious manual copying from reference screenshots. A native system would:
  1. Significantly reduce repetitive clicking and "re-building" burnout.
  2. Foster a more active community through design sharing.
  3. Add meaningful late-game progression goals to the research system.
Thank you for your incredible work on ONI. I hope to see this feature considered for a future update!
Best regards,
Kagura
