I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as I'm unsure if Klei tolerates this kind of promotion, but I had a fun video idea of putting boss items together in a tournament styled bracket and getting a few people from the community to discuss which item is the best. For this kind bracket, I needed to answer two questions:

1.) What constitutes as a boss?

2.) What constitutes as a boss item?

In my eyes, bosses are mobs that either appear in the giants tab in DST's scrapbook or play a variant of the epic fight song, E.F.S for short, while in combat, which differs from the normal combat music throughout the games. So while most don't consider Spider Queen or Lord of the Fruit Flies to be bosses, both appear as giants in the scrapbook and both play a variant of the E.F.S, so they count.

Boss items are either unique drops that come from a specific boss, either as a piece of equipment, such as the Bee Queen Crown or Shield of Terror, as an ingredient for a certain dish, such as Jellybeans or Snake Bone Soup, a consumable item, such as the Bootleg Getaway, or are crafted using materials which come from that specific boss, such as the Deerclops Eyeball being used to make the Eyebrella or the Thick Fur being used to make the Hibearnation Vest.

The bosses whose drops don't fit the criteria are the Treeguard, Queen Womant, the Shadow Pieces, Klaus, the Forest Stalker, the Cave Stalker, and the Great Depths Worm. Aside from those 7, I'll be listing all boss items from both solo DS and DST, as I thought it'd make for a more interesting conversation and I didn't want to leave single-player out.

With the ground rules set, this next part might be a bit more difficult: Actually planning the bracket. This is really the first time I've ever tried to host something before, and while I'm not sure if it's going to go as well as I want it to, I'd still want to give it a shot. My current plan is to get a max of 2 to 3 people in a Discord call and record our opinions on the bracket. The bracket was made using a tournament bracket generator on the Challonge website, featuring 54 boss items in a double elimination styled bracket. I want to try to get people who are pretty knowledgeable about the game and can give good insight about the various items on display. I'd also need to know what time everyone would be available to join the call, as varying time zones could cause issues with availability. As for me, I live in the eastern time zone in the US with a schedule that's pretty free. If I had to choose a rough date for the event, I'd gun for either September 13th or 14th, as people who are still in school have some free time during the weekend.

So that's everything I have in mind for this event. If any of you have any questions about the bracket, have tips on to plan things out better, or are interested in participating, please let me know in the replies down below and DM your discord username. The best boss item is stinger from bee queen.

I thought you were fibbing, but it turns out she does drop a single stinger. Can't believe I never noticed after all my hours played. I'M SUCH A FRAUD!!! Jokes, aside, would you say you'd be interested in something like this?

Fun fact, toadstool also drops a singular pair of frog legs.

also this event just seems easier to do with polls than video calls.

I suppose you're right, I just thought doing it in a video format would be more engaging. Besides, I like hearing opinions over call rather than through text. Feels like you get better insights on people's opinions.

Maybe though I feel like that effort would be for a YouTube video or something.

I think the biggest thing to look at in the bracket is that we shouldn't compare the use of items to those in single player since they often don't get to interact with each other.

That and also how items compare in their functions.   Some items are utility some are combat. And Im not exactly sure how fair it would be to compare them like that but i guess thats what the bracket is for right?
