Leading only to Tender Brisket and Smoked Fish, both quality 3, is not good, when most foods in the base game have paths to quality 4+. This is especially noticeable if doing Hermit story trait where you need to break out the base game recipes as there's no prehistoric options for high quality food.

Should for instance be possible to make Surf'n'Turf using Smoked Fish and Tender Brisket as selectable alternatives to Cooked Seafood and BBQ.

If we are talking about morale then +3 Quality food is enough morale for typical colonies most +4 n +5 foods just gives you more morale and just a bit more calories but the morale is not really necessary. Also Smoked Fish have a shelf life of 32 cycles which is pretty dam good. However, I do agree that their should be more high tier food options, the deep fryer had potential to make +5 food but klei chose not to.
