Swiyss
I'm here to present something that quite honestly would fit dst very well. A follower upgrade. Now, with that comes new ways to use the animal kingdom environment to our assistance, similar to how we use beefalo for transport and travel. The problem with a follower update would be that we currently already have 2 survivors that have their character and skill tree devoted to this mechanic, and that's webber and wurt. However I believe that this update wouldn't hurt them in any way, since we're going to utilize these mobs for other goods as well other than combat, making it fair for everyone (I know wurt and webber can't use pigs, so that's why they have their own set of followers). Pigs currently will help you chopping trees, catcoons will generate a handful of random junk, tallbirds will grow to be useful for a set period of days, beefalos will help with travel and transport as I mentioned before, fruitfly will tend crops, saladmander will fight for us, carrats and poly roger will collect items on the ground, killer bees attack mobs too etc.. You get the idea. My main suggestion is to make some of these a little bit better and more intuitive, but not too forced as well. I love cats, and I also love dogs. Chester for me kind of looks like more of a dog than a cat, and I'm biased towards cats more. I really wish there was a way to make these cats useful for us other than simply.. a critter or a junk regurgitator. Their drops have to get better, they need to also give very specific newly added items similar to how they made the underground tunnel inventory from the rabbit king (loved that feature by the way), and there should be a way to obtain a fixed catcoon pet at our base. Catcoons could trade all seeds at a higher ammount, from 5-10 seeds per trade for cat toys and food. He should also be able to trade all gems, but at a rarer chance. He shouldn't give us back food too, because it doesn't make sense to get red caps from him. Befriending a catcoon completely will allow us to renovate his den and obtain a "tamed catcoon". Tamed ones will wonder around us, helping us collect critters such as rabbits, butterflies, moleworms etc.. This would allow us to have better butterfly farms, and a cute little guy or gal that would help us around. Tamed catcoons would have their own mentality, wondering around trying to dig and find new spots for lost items, hibernating in winter, etc.. They would be a great companion to have on a boat, since they would one shot cookie cutters for us and prevent them from digging into our ship, they could also be able to randomly fish for us every once in a while for a quick bite out of some random fish at a rare chance. The tamed catcoon would be 1 per player and be different from other catcoons, they could also be able to travel to the caves with us, they would fight bats and call for earthquakes minutes before it happens. Tamed catcoons would be smart, they would have more health to not die, but they would also avoid almost every combat situation where they lose, and they would run from bosses to not die. We would be able to give pearl a tamed catcoon companion different from the regular tamed catcoon, she would thank you for the pet and would question if he's going to eat her or not as a joke, and it would count as 1 point in her quest. Tamed catcoons could also be relocated to new homes, they would wander around our base, making anything random their new home, like the space under science machines etc.. We could also probably make new dens out of birch trees clumped together, and it's leaves would be their home. Tamed catcoons would be great to have not only to farm butterflies, but also to have around really. Tamed catcoons would have levels of taming, and in their final level, they would unlock a different rare trading option, 1 Golden Koi can be traded for a new item that would allow us to have built-in insulation in some way, this is something that is very needed to combat against the cold from an ice crystaleyezer. This would make us find fishing more fun and enjoyable, while also having an amazing cute companion with us. Imagine the skins a tamed catcoon could get? So cutee. There could also be some changes to the other creatures as well, and each of them could solve one problem at a time at the cost of friendship!! Hope you get the idea! chloraei
I’m anticipating Wickerbottom getting catcoon upgrades, since she’s a bonafide cat lady. readkey
I want to take hounds as followers. Why can the Walrus family have two blue hounds while we only get chased by them? FillerText
Ever since I saw Rain World's scavengers, I've been (kind of) longing for some other creature in DST to behave similiarly to them. I've been a little disappointed, when Hamlet pigs didn't come close to matching that level. Rain World spoiled me. Maybe for the next Year of the Varg event, they can upgrade the Lucky Whistle to make hounds do more actions, like siccing them on enemies. Alternatively, since Maxwell created them, perhaps that could be part of his skill tree.
