rukoo
Hi, I'm using a translator. Sorry for the awkwardness of English. I'm making a character with a different proportion than the usual Don't starve Togeter character. So I modified the position of each part with a splitter, and this doesn't work properly. Why is this? I need help. karl.zip Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/164406-spriter-error/ Share on other sites
NPCMaxwell
Karl seems to look perfectly fine in SPRITER to me. Can you maybe explain what exactly the problem is that you experience with Karl? I sadly can't test out Karl in-game since your zip only contains the sprites, not the rest of the character. If Karl looks weird in game then it's probably the same case of "animation sickness" that my Maxwell with his non-tiny proportions suffers from. In that case it would mean you would have to do some extra-work and either adjust ALL animations manually with custom animations for Karl (like I am working on doing for Maxwell) OR you have to shift Karl's body parts WITHIN the canvas of Karl's body parts' png so little only that they still roughly align with the in-game animations. So you need to edit your body parts pngs either OR focus on editing every single animation used in SGWilson with a custom one for your character. Moving the body parts around in the karl.scml won't show up in game, since the SG has no animation called "karl" If Karl only e.g. looks very tiny in game, then you can add a "resizer" in Karl's character prefab to make the alignment with other characters in-game look more plausible. (I will tell you how to do that, in case it's just this minor problem) [another small side note: I think your art for Karl looks so adorable ] Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/164406-spriter-error/#findComment-1801382 Share on other sites
Chesed
Edits you make to the position of sprites in Spriter do not carry over to the game. The Spriter file provided is just to preview what your character will look like if everything works as it should. That is why if a problem happens, the character will sometimes look different between Spriter and the game. (Sorry, I had more to say but looking more closely at your character I do not think I was correct. I have deleted what I said here and will edit when I've looked at your character more.) EDIT: Okay, I think I see the the problem! First, the game is placing your character's arm where Wilson's arm is normally. Your character has a very small head compared to a Don't Starve character - twice as small! And the head is low down on the canvas too. So that makes the arm look very high up in the air compared to your character's body and head. I think you have moved the location of the sleeve art on your canvas to the corners try and make it work, but the game is still animating it as if the art is in the middle. This will cause more problems. I recommend downloading the sample template character again, and copy-pasting your sprites on to that template, following where the template's art is. That way the Spriter file will correctly show what the game will show. You will have to make your character's head and body a little larger to animate properly. I'm sorry that the solution is very annoying and you won't be able to use the proportions that you want... You could do what the person above suggested and use code to make your character look smaller afterwards if you'd like. I hope this helps, and I hope I explained it well enough. Quote Karl seems to look perfectly fine in SPRITER to me I think they have moved Karl's sprites around in Spriter and saved the .scml file. It was hard for me to tell how much things had moved until I looked at the character with a esctemplate.scml file that had no edits to see what happened. Then the arm floated just like they described! NPCMaxwell
I didn't notice the floaty arm before, sorry but yes as confirmed abox the scml file is only to test what your character looks like "assembled". if the proportions are "funny" there is also always the risk that the character has some animation sickness in the sense of some animations looking good, others looking broken. There is kind of the chance to move the arms and hand of the carrier closer to a realistic position but it COULD lead to the character e.g. making handslot equipments "levitate" in the place where Wilson's hand is. I am still trying to figure out adjusting the game to the Character not the other way round so I have some basic ideas approach but not full-guide and troubleshoot to non-wilson-looking characters yet. i may be able to help with a few things though a bit. I hope you find a compromise that makes Karl playable and fun for you despite some minor oddities. *fully supports the creative proportions characters despite their oddities* Edited February 26, 2025 by NPCMaxwell Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/164406-spriter-error/#findComment-1801757 Share on other sites
